メソポタミアから出発して５千年にわたる古代文明をたどり、ヨーロッパの文字の発展について講演します。
ローマ帝国時代から18世紀までの文書を使い、古文書学入門ともいえる講座です。
ガチーニは１０年に渡ってヨーロッパの私立、および国立図書館から特別な許可を得てラテン、
フランスとイタリアの写本を研究しました。
１９９５年〜１９９７年の間にフランスの国立図書館のラテン写本研究員として
３,３００時間以上の研究を重ねています。
クラスの資料は、その経験に基づき、過去の優れた写本の中から、より完璧で美しいものを選びますので、
他に例を見ない貴重なものが多く含まれます。
このクラスの資料に基づいて勉強する生徒の知識・西洋書道の理解度は、より深いものへと導かれます。

Departing from Mesopotamia, a trip through 5,000 years of civilization
will provide the student with an intimate look at each culture related
to the development of the alphabet.
This course is also an initiation to Latin paleography and epigraphy
using material from the Roman Empire to the 18th century.

For over ten years Muriel Gaggini was given access as a short-time researcher
to many prestigious national and private libraries of Europe.
For 2 years (1995-1997) she worked as a full-time Reader
in the Department of Occidental Manuscripts at the National Library of France,
accumulating more than 3,300 hours of research.
In her quest for perfection she studied the best calligraphy works of the past
and gathered unique materials that are available nowhere else.
This class materials will greatly contribute to the knowledge and the appreciation of calligraphy,
and also teach how to work in different languages.
